Joe Cooney

Title: Regulatory Consultant

How long have you been working at EcoEngineers? Since January 2019

What service area do you work? I work in Regulatory Engagement,  Asset Development Consulting, and Compliance Management. I work top-of-funnel sales, regulatory consulting, and help with any pipeline work that Eco needs.

Where are you from? Detroit, Michigan

What degrees or certifications do you have? Experimental Biology and Civil Engineering

Why do you do what you do? Whether or not one believes that the planet is undergoing climate change, it is obvious that the emissions from the production and combustion of fossil fuels are damaging to all of living beings on this planet. Therefore, the more those emissions can be reduced, the healthier for everything on earth.

What does a Clean Energy Economy mean to you?A livable future for my kids, grandkids and beyond. A clean energy economy is one in which any emissions produced from the cradle to grave life cycle of energy production and combustion are either captured and sequestered, or offset by the avoidance of more damaging emissions.

What question do your friends or family typically ask about your job? Q: You spent decades in the natural gas industry. Why are you now promoting renewable fuels? A: I’m glad that I spent the majority of my career in an industry promoting a fuel that is much less damaging than the heavier fossil fuels. However, when it became apparent that much less damaging fuels could accomplish everything that any fossil fuel could, it made perfect sense to do whatever I can to promote those fuels.

What question does a client typically ask about your job before you begin? Q: What services can EcoEngineers provide to assist us with the EPA and CARB? A: EcoEngineers provides three major categories of services related to maximizing credit values available thru the EPA RFS and CARB LCFS programs. They are auditing, compliance management and energy consulting. The various sub-categories under each allow us to educate our clients thru EcoUniversity, assist our clients in many ways to improve their efficiencies and lower their carbon intensity and audit the pathways they have in both the EPA/RFS and CARB/LCFS programs.

What is the biggest problem you solve? How would you describe it and your approach to fixing it? Assisting clients who need to focus on their production with the morass of regulations with which they need to comply in order to maximize their credit values.

How would you describe your biggest win? Successfully introducing new clients to the services and team at EcoEngineers.

What do you do you for fun outside of work and why do you enjoy it? 1. Spend as much time as possible with my grandkids 2. Train and play with my dog 3. Listen to audio books 4. Golf. All of the above are about either connections to family, or release from the trials of life.
