Audit Services

We ensure the integrity and accuracy of carbon declarations in the marketplace.

Few companies have been involved as intimately in as many greenhouse gas (GHG) project types as EcoEngineers. Our auditing project team has conducted more than 100 GHG project verifications for reduction and removal activities, 150 GHG inventory verifications, and more than 30 compliance pathways reports. We have drafted some of the most cutting-edge crediting methodologies in the carbon dioxide removal (CDR) arena.

We have expertise across the majority of GHG project sectors and are recognized authorities in developing and confirming claims. Our cross-sectoral knowledge derives from the diversity of backgrounds we employ, ranging from geophysicists to chemical engineers, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) sectoral experts, and thought leaders across voluntary and compliance carbon markets.

EcoEngineers brought to market one of the first Quality Assurance Programs (QAP) for Renewable Identification Numbers (RINs) and compliance data under the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS). We continue to be an industry leader as an accredited verification body with more than 24 lead verifiers, more than 4 billion RINs verified, more than 1,500 QAP audits completed, and more than 600 RFS registrations, addendums, or three-year updates completed. We provide validation/verification services, auditing renewable fuels to comply with all regulatory verification requirements. Our audit plans incorporate rigorous, science-based measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) protocols to account for every molecule of clean carbon used as fuel in projects that claim tax credits or low-carbon fuel credits.

EcoEngineers has been granted accreditation by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) National Accreditation Board (ANAB), in accordance with the following International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards ISO/IEC 17029:2019 Conformity assessment — General principles and requirements for validation and verification bodies; ISO 14065:2020 — General principles and requirements for bodies validating and verifying environmental information; and ISO 14064-3:2019 Greenhouse gases (GHG) — Part 3: Specification with guidance for the verification and validation of greenhouse gas statements. The specific scope of accreditation granted to EcoEngineers is: Verification of assertions related to GHG emission reductions and removals at the project level for project activities under ANAB scope 01. GHG emission reductions from fuel combustion.

This accreditation allows EcoEngineers to provide organizations and their stakeholders, including board members and investors, with the assurance, credibility, quality, rigor, and continuous improvement they need to reduce risk. Additionally, this assurance will support a GHG project’s ability to substantiate its GHG statements. Eco joins an elite group of ISO-accredited Validation and Verification Bodies (VVBs) that identify risks, review methods of data collection and reporting, and evaluate the robustness of data management systems in place to ensure accurate and transparent GHG reporting.

The ANAB accreditation enables EcoEngineers to expand its auditing and verification services beyond the U.S. Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) and state-driven Low-Carbon Fuel Standards (LCFS). EcoEngineers is an accredited GHG validation and verification body, which means that it may seek to become recognized to perform verification services under Canada’s Clean Fuel Regulations (CFR), The Climate Registry (TCR), Climate Action Reserve (CAR), Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard, Gold Standard Foundation, and Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA).

In the voluntary carbon markets (VCM), this accreditation allows Eco to participate in carbon removal registries such as Puro.earth, Isometric, and others.

The accreditation also positions Eco to expand its services into Europe to become a registered verification body under the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC).

EcoEngineers can serve as your GHG consultancy advisor or third-party GHG verifier but not act as both through either role.
