EcoForums Training Series: Life-Cycle Analysis & Introduction to GREET and CA‑GREET 4.0
As part of our EcoUniversity training program, we are proud to launch a new EcoForums Training Series designed to help professionals build critical skills and regulatory literacy in the fast-moving world of clean fuels. The series covers the two largest renewable fuels programs in the U.S.: the California Low Carbon Fuel Standard and the federal Renewable Fuel Standard. The final installment dives into life-cycle analysis basics, plus a primer on the Argonne National Laboratory’s GREET model and California’s CA-GREET 4.0 model.
Perfect for those new to life-cycle analysis or assessment (LCA) or fuel carbon modeling, this session begins with foundational LCA principles and transitions into hands-on understanding of Argonne National Laboratory’s Greenhouse gases, Regulated Emissions, and Energy use in Technologies (GREET) model. Plus, learners will get a glimpse into the CA-LCFS’s CA-GREET 4.0 model and its input mechanisms.
You will learn:
• What life-cycle analysis is and how it’s applied in fuels
• System boundaries, functional units, and attributional vs. consequential LCA
• Key emission sources across fuel pathways
• An introduction to the GREET model
• How California’s CA‑GREET model differs from standard GREET
• How LCA results influence LCFS, RFS, and global clean fuel regulations
