Back to Basics: European Union's Renewable Energy Directive (RED)

Join us for an introductory webinar to gain a basic understanding of the EU’s Renewable Energy Directive (RED), its implementing measures, as well as other key renewable energy policies. This session, part of our ongoing “Back to Basics” series, covers the RED II and RED III directives, which set ambitious renewable energy targets for various sectors, including transportation, heating, and power generation. We also provide a foundational overview of other regulatory policies taking shape in the EU, such as the “Fit for 55” package, the Net Zero Industry Act, RePowerEU, Emissions Reduction Scheme (ETS), carbon pricing mechanisms, sustainable fuel mandates, and Member States’ obligations for achieving compliance. This session examines sustainability criteria, life-cycle emissions, and verification processes under voluntary schemes recognized by the EU. With a focus on policy implementation challenges and the role of hydrogen, biomethane, and advanced biofuels, this webinar provides practical insights for businesses navigating Europe’s transition to cleaner energy and fuels.

This webinar originally aired on November 14, 2025.
